Privacy, in plain English.

The wand exists because we think privacy should be physics, not policy — today's device carries no camera and no microphone. This page holds our websites to the same standard: what we collect, why, and what we never do, in plain language. It covers the-wand.ai and its subdomains, including the air-writing demos at phone-demo.the-wand.ai and the hardware demo at demo.the-wand.ai.

Who we are

These sites are run by Input-A — legal entity Inputa Inc., a Delaware (USA) corporation — with engineering in Berlin, Germany. For anything about your data, write to john.usher@the-wand.ai.

What we collect, where

Every page on this site

Our pages report first-party usage events to our own server: which page, how long it was actually on screen, how far you scrolled, the page that referred you, and clicks on downloads or outbound links. These events use random identifiers stored in your browser (one per browser, one per tab — not cookies, and not tied to your identity). Like essentially every web service, our server stamps each request with connection details — your network (IP) address, a country code derived from it, and your browser's technical identity — and keeps standard access logs for security and operations; these rotate automatically. The statistics we actually look at are country-level tallies and per-page read counts. We run no third-party analytics of any kind.

The air-writing demos — /write, /play, /learn

When you press the write button, the demo streams your phone's motion sensors (accelerometer and gyroscope) to our server so the recognizer can read your air-writing — that is the demo. We keep what you drew, what the recognizer thought it said, corrections you make, scores, and technical details of the device (model class, screen size, language, timezone, connection type) under a random session identifier. The demo logs record a country code rather than your IP address. We use this data to run the demos, measure recognition accuracy, and improve the models.

The games

The arcade games log the same gameplay motion as the demos. If you put a name on a leaderboard, that name and score are public — pick any name you like (we'd suggest not your real one; offensive names are filtered).

The Oracle and the vote

/oracle is a public research experiment about what motion does and doesn't reveal: it stores the letters you draw, the quiz answers you choose to give, and the connection details above. /vote stores your ranking, your optional comment, and the same connection details.

The hardware demo and onboarding

If you onboard a physical wand at demo.the-wand.ai, the letters you record are uploaded to build your personalized recognition model — that's their sole purpose, and they're kept as part of that pipeline.

Paid studies

Our training corpus comes mainly from paid, separately-consented studies recruited through Prolific. Those are governed by the consent shown in the study itself and by Prolific's terms; study data is keyed to Prolific identifiers, not names.

The sign-up list

If you ask us to tell you when the wand is ready, we keep your email address and the page you asked from. We also keep the time and the IP address of two moments: the form you filled in, and the confirmation link you clicked. That pair is the evidence that you asked to be on the list, and German law expects us to be able to show it — so, unusually for this site, those two events keep an IP address rather than a country code.

Nothing else is attached to it. No profile, no tracking across sites, no advertising list, and we never sell or rent addresses. The list is held on our own server; it is not kept in a marketing service, and no third party is sent your address.

You are not added until you click the link in the confirmation email. Every letter after that carries a one-click unsubscribe, which removes the address and the two IP addresses. You can also write to hello@the-wand.ai and ask us to delete it, and we will.

Email and social

If you write to us, we keep the correspondence. Our pages on LinkedIn and similar platforms are governed by those platforms' own policies; what we see there is what any page admin sees — aggregate statistics and public interactions.

What we never do

• No selling or renting of data. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone.
• No advertising networks, tracking pixels, or cross-site identifiers on any of our pages.
• No camera and no microphone in any web demo — the pages never request those permissions.
• No profiling for ads, and no automated decisions with legal or similar effect about you.

Third parties we do use

• Hetzner — our servers, located in Germany (EU).
• Cloudflare — the network in front of our servers; like any network provider it carries the traffic, and it supplies the country code we log.
• Google Fonts — our pages load their typefaces from Google's servers, so your browser makes a font request to Google (which sees your IP address and browser identity, not what you do on the page).
• Prolific — recruitment and payment for paid studies only.

Where it lives, and for how long

Everything above is stored on our own servers in Germany. Motion recordings and study submissions are kept long-term in pseudonymous form — they are the research corpus the recognizer is built from. Operational access logs rotate automatically and are not used for profiling.

Your choices

Motion sharing is physical: the demos only record while you hold the button. The random identifiers live in your browser's site storage — clearing site data resets them. And you can ask us to show you or delete data at any time — one caveat: because records carry no identity, we may need the random identifier from your browser to find which data is yours (email us and we'll walk you through it). If you're in the EU/EEA or UK, these are your GDPR rights — access, correction, deletion, objection — and you can also complain to your local data-protection authority.

Children

Our sites are general-audience, have no accounts, and are not directed at children under 13.

Changes

If our practices change, this page changes with them, along with the date below.
